After watching Johns video on setting up a portable sonar unit, I thought I'd provide a reference to an alternative transducer bracket to the one used in the video. Here's a picture of a portable transducer bracket (standard boat bracket) available from Cabelas (item number IK-010095). The vertical leg is adjustable up or down to fit various transom sizes.

I've used this transducer bracket for 4 years and what I like best about it is that it allows you to keep your transducer in the water at wide open throttle - thus providing you a sonar image at speed. Here's a side view of mine with the transducer attached.
